CPRE Cornwall and CornwallProtect wrote to Alec Robertson, Leader of Cornwall Council, at his suggestion, detailing concerns about the increasing number of wind turbines blighting Cornwall and the failure of Planning Officers in many instances to follow correct procedures/processes in considering applications.
We received a reply, a month later, not from Mr Roberston but from Cllr Kaczmarek on 4th September which was wholly unsatisfactory. It ignored the specific cases we highlighted of poor process. These were supplied at Mr Roberston’s request. It failed to address the key issues we raised over appropriate environmental assessments. the distancing of turbines from homes and the protection of Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Areas of Great Landscape Value (AONBs and AGLVs) etc. Localism, it appears is ignored by Cornwall Council.
We have now written to Mr Robertson again reiterating our concerns and requesting again the Meeting to which he agreed. The THREE letters follow below.
What can YOU do to protect Cornwall’s beautiful landscape from the further proliferation of wind turbines? Turbines exist because of massive taxpayer subsidies to landowners and overseas developers. They do not generate electricity effectively but their cost is added to the electricity bills of all of us – driving even more people in Cornwall and the UK into fuel poverty.

b.Please write to your MP – see details in ‘Contacts and Links’ for their email addresses . Most of our MPs currently sit on the fence on the turbine issue.
c. Please write to your Councillor with your views – each Councillor has an email address on the Council website – www.cornwall.gov.uk . Councillors across Cornwall will be seeking re-election in April 2013 !
